“Body Horror” is a style that always fascinated me. One of my favorite films to this day is John Carpenter’s The Thing. And of course all the Clive Barker films/books. The idea of a recognized anatomy can manifest new appendages in real time, or someone can mutilate themselves by way of supernatural powers engulfs my imagination.
Not to mention Anime coming out of Japan in the 90’s known as “OVA’s” have always particularity leaned on body horror to shock and amaze the young audiences there and across to western shores. Flims as recognizable as Akira to more cult classics as Wicked City I feel that it is a very niche illustrative style i keep revisiting.
Ive known the members of Plague Mind for quite some years now so it was nice to have that personal level in a working relationship, but also the trust that comes with it. Once we landed on the direction we were all happy with. They pretty much let me have carte blanch on refining and completing the look.
Same goes for the logo work as well. This was a very satisfying project and I am very grateful and humbled to have their trust on creating a visual identity to couple with their all impressive sound.
